We were happy to see Pandy the hot air balloon this year. Or maybe we should call it Persistent Pandy. This hot air balloon was the cutest of all the balloons at the 2011 Adirondack Balloon Festival. Unfortunately, on the day we were there, this hot air balloon never got more than just a few feet off the ground. It struggled, at first, between other inflating balloons and then against the winds. Just before the sun set, and after what must of been over an hour of attempting to get Pandy fully inflated and into the air, the crew of this wonderfully shaped balloon decided to hold off and wait to try to fly again another day.

Just before the crew called it a day we were able to capture this 360° image of Pandy and onlookers at golden hour. Click on the image above to experience the Pandy hot air balloon interactive panorama.
This was our second day at the Adirondack Balloon Festival and what a difference we experienced compared to the day before! On the previous day the skies held grey and the weather didn’t offer any chance for the balloonists to launch. We feared the same would happen on this day.

Small openings in the clouds offered us some hope and then, when the official weather report was announced and the balloons where given the okay to fly, the entire airfield came to life. Balloon crews worked quickly to prepare their balloons for take-off. Yards and yards of colorful fabric was spread on the grass. Fans and burners roared as people waited excitedly to see the colors and shapes lifted into the sky. It was a bit crazy, things were very busy and most of the balloons were in flight so quickly you barely had time to take it in. Honestly, it felt a bit magical seeing the cloudy skies fill with reds, yellows, purples, shapes and people in floating baskets.

Click on the image above to experience a moment of the 2011 Adirondack Balloon Festival. From the perspective captured in this 360 degree interactive image you can see (and hear) the balloons being filled and in the distance others that have already taken flight.

You may also want to experience the 360 degree interactive panoramas we created of Flecks Folly IV and the Pandy hot air balloon.

One of my favorite things at Christmastime is hearing Christmas carolers. As we were walking down the chilly streets of Jim Thorpe in December, to my delight there were carolers singing from the balcony of the Inn at Jim Thorpe across the street. We were able to capture some audio of their singing and create this 360 degree panorama for you to get a glimpse of what it is like to be there.

If you want to really experience being there we recommend putting on a wool hat, grabbing some hot cocoa, and lighting a holiday scented candle before opening the virtual tour. (Note: You may want to ditch the hat if you’re having a good hair day or at the office.) Otherwise, you can just enjoy the virtual tour of the Carolers at the Inn in Jim Thorpe on it’s own.

Visiting the Jim Thorpe Olde Time Christmas celebration is one thing we enjoy around holidays. What do you like to do during Christmas time? Feel free to share your best things to do or your favorite holiday spot! Maybe, we’ll have a chance to visit your favorite spot and create a virtual tour of it one day.

Picture Perfect Greetings is a photography company that specializes in creating scenic photos and greeting cards in the Haddon Heights area. IttyBitty Bows makes girls’ hair accessories like hair bows, clips, headbands, bow holders, and flowers all by hand. You can like IttyBitty Bows on Facebook!

There is just something about Reginald Wickham that is different from most. Talking with him, it is evident that he has a zeal and joy for life and living that many only wish to possess. Reginald Wickham has been an artist for many years. Many know him for his work as an award winning photographer. In recent days, Reginald has included painting into his artistic repertoire.

While talking to Reginald about painting and photography, his positive outlook and joy in life comes shining through. He’s shared with us more than once how he has “never worked a day in his life”. He seems to always be enjoying the things he’s been blessed to do. Check out his photography on his website ReginaldWickham.com and, if you ever get to meet him be sure to say hello and chat for a while. No doubt, if you do, you’ll learn something about art, photography, and enjoying life.

On June 17, 2009 Samurai Virtual Tours attended the Business Pro$ event held at Beowulf in Cherry Hill, NJ. The presenter for the event was Linda Lane, Financial Planner with First Financial Group/Mass Mutual. Linda engaged with the audience to share about her experiences in networking. She shared many do’s and don’ts for networking along with her own personal stories and experiences.

She gave useful tips that included: bending the corner of a business card to remind you of a person you want to follow up with, dressing appropriately (men: polish your shoes, women: keep your shoes on & undergarments “under”) and call or email at least two people within a day or two to have a one-on-one meeting with them. She reminded us all that there is no magic to networking; it’s simply a matter of building trust, following up with people and staying in touch.

Linda also suggested public speaking as a means to expand your network. If you are an expert in a field, let others know by speaking for events and providing useful information. You never know who is listening and when you may hear from them again as a prospective client or referral base.

One of Linda’s most important tips was to be yourself. In the networking tips flyer she passed out she wrote, “Be yourself. That is the most important rule. Smart people will know the difference, and you can only sustain a facade for so long. Most people like doing business and networking with people they like and trust.”

Thanks Linda for the advice and enjoyable evening. Thanks The Business Pro$ for arranging the event and inviting us.

Jonny Goldstein did a great job sharing practical tips on drawing and visual note taking at the June ’09 Refresh Philly meeting. Jonny has been producing cool online content and has been blogging at jonnygoldstein.com since 2004. He recently moved to the Philadelphia area and is using his skills in the area of explaining, cartooning and media creation to make cool animated movies that help businesses reach their goals. Learn more about Jonny’s services and see he uses visual notes to help businesses at envizualize.com.

Anthony's sketches from Jonny's session.

During his session, Jonny showed us how using simple shapes and techniques could produce drawings that are capable of explaining or expressing emotion, quantity, time, and more. We learned how to use dots, lines, triangles, circles, squares and squiggly lines to communicate ideas to others. But we also learned how visual sketching could help us communicate to oursleves by encouraging our minds to better consider ideas and think of new ones. Visual sketching and note taking can be helpful if you are taking notes at a business seminar, making plans for your next vacation or brainstorming ideas for your next big idea.

During this Refresh Philly there were 3 different session going on at the same time. In addition to Jonny’s Visual Notes, Livia Labate also ran a session entitled “Design Games”, and Kevin Fitzpatrick shared about “Apps for America Brainstorming”. With three great choices and conversations available, we must admit, it was a little difficult choosing just one to sit in on.

Kevin's Session at Refresh Philly

Refresh Philly hosts at least one great event each month. Consider following them on Twitter or Facebook to find out about their next event and get connected.

We also attended the Going Hyperlocal session which was presented by Bill Bostic, Publisher/Editor of the Linglestown Gazette. Bill shared his passion of announcing the local news that the major papers normally overlook by using a hyperlocal blog, which is a blog that is concentrated on one area or town. The group discussed ways to generate income to support the blog by having local businesses contribute through paid advertising while allowing them to provide useful content to the community in the blog’s posts.

Overall, BCNI Philly was a great success, and we were glad we could be a part.

On December 31, 2008, Anthony and Carole from Samurai Virtual Tours celebrated the new year along with many other Southern New Jersey residents at First Night Haddonfield 2009. There were many interesting and entertaining events and performances going on throughout the night. One performance that we made sure to attended was that of the Philadelphia Boys Choir at the First Presbyterian Church’s sanctuary. The choir was directed by Jeffery R. Smith and they put on a brilliant performance.

The Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale was founded in 1968 and is now considered one of the top boys choirs in the country. The Philadelphia Boys Choir has sold out Carnegie Hall, sung at the White House and shared the stage with Pavarotti and other famous singers. Their performance in Haddonfield was beautiful and entertaining. There is no doubt that this choir composed of men and boys from the Greater Philadelphia region does an excellent job representing the United States as America’s Ambassadors of Song.

The above 360 degree image includes a short audio clip from their performance of Amazing Grace. It was a very beautiful and moving rendition. Enjoy!

On March 27th South Jersey Biz Buzz and its marketing committee held the “New Rules of Marketing, PR and Advertising” event at Pine Hill Golf Club. The discussion panel addressed the audience with methods and ideas regarding employing conventional and unconventional means to better market themselves and their businesses. Adam Sokoloff chairman of the SJ Biz Buzz Marketing Committee was moderator of the event and led the panel in discussion about using print, PR, video, the internet, and social media for marketing and advertising.

Click image to view the 360° interactive panorama of the panel.

Panelists’ areas of expertise and knowledge of marketing, PR and advertising today was varied. The views shared from the panel ranged from “print is not dying only evolving” to “pray for PR” to “there are lots of free or inexpensive ways to market yourself on the internet.” Simple and practical tips were shared during the discussion and question and answer times. Some practical tips included the importance of registering your own domain name and having a website, using professional printing services instead of do it yourself solutions, and signing up for social media tools such as Twitter or Facebook.

One of my favorite suggestions from the panel came from Susan of Suasion Communications Group who says business people should meet with editors to tell instead of to sell. Susan encouraged the audience to meet with editors to establish relationships. She shared how she had used this technique in the past and found that often when editors where searching for stories that related to her business she would be called upon for the story. Susan’s suggestion reminded me of the importance of building a network before you need it.

On Thursday, March 19th 2009 the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Cherry Hill Regional Chamber of Commerce hosted a networking event at the Cherry Hill Mall. Attendees enjoyed breakfast and networking in this newly renovated area of the Cherry Hill Mall. The Cherry Hill Mall was opened in 1961 and was the first indoor shopping center east of the Mississippi River in the United States.

<img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-258" title="Cherry Hill Mall Networking" src="http://blog.samuraivirtualtours.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/high540-150x69.jpg" alt="View of the networking event attendees.
This free (to chamber members) breakfast networking event gave business people from both sides of the Delaware River the opportunity to make connections with other business men and women they might not usually have the opportunities to meet.
Samurai Virtual Tours owners had a good time capturing photographs, meeting new people and helping some of our fellow chamber members make connections.
